Venting

Are all men so self absorbed that they think just because you talk to them (and they notice you don't have a ring on your finger) you are interested in them? Lately it seems like any guy that I talk to in any form some how gets the impression that I am "free" (technically I am... but no) and interested. I know that girls always called me a flirt, but I just ignored them because I knew I wasn't... at least I wasn't being so on purpose. I have just always been a very open and friendly person, and I have always gotten along better with guys (at least I use to... not so much now) then I do girls. I guess that comes from growing up with four brothers and always being a tomboy. I could always play all the sports guys could. My brothers even taught me how to appropriately play tackle football! They taught me how to play baseball and soccer too. They taught me how to run fast and hit hard. So needless to say, most guys I knew growing up always wanted me on their team while the rest of the girls (well majority of them... there were a couple others "like me") sat on the sidelines and just watched or cheered. Most of my life that didn't bother me that all of my guys friends and really any other guy who just knew me, considered me "one of the guys". Yes, a little later I did start trying to change that. It was the summer before my Junior year and I had my first real "like" of a guy (yes I had realized guys were cute before then but I wasn't interested) . I joined the cheerleading squad at my high school (on the urging of my best friend 'cause they NEEDED girls with gymnastics experience) and started focusing a lot more on my acting, singing, and dancing rather then my sports. But finally I realized that being a "tough" athletic girl was a part of who I was (am). I love playing sports, but I also love my more "feminine" activities.
Anyway, kinda went on a rabbit trail there! haha Before I got to college I never really noticed how guys reacted to the way I talked and acted around them. Because I acted the same way with them as I did everyone else (aka girls). At least I thought I did. :P Since I started realizing how they reacted I try very hard to be careful with what I say, how I say it, and how I act (I tend to have male humor... once again due to the fact of growing up with 4 brothers). But still it seems like I am constantly sending out a "you can hit on me any time you want" vibe. This week I have been asked for my phone number three times, email address three times, and been asked if I would accept a complete stranger (all of these people have been complete strangers) as a friend on facebook because he thought I was "hot" (the dumbest expression EVER... and I don't have facebook).  Now I must say that all of this has been very strange for me. I have never had other guys treat me in such a way. I have only dated two guys (one of whom was my husband). But those just... happened. They were my friend before they were my boyfriend. I don't know if it is this new generation or what! I am not use to guys coming up to me and talking to me for the whole purpose that they like me. I am use to all the attention going to either a friend with me or to my daughters (yes, I do get approached by guys in stores because they think my girls are adorable)! Sorry if you find this post pointless, but this week has been weird... and it is starting to annoy me! I guess right I am just NOT interested in any approach by a guy. I just want to be left alone. I want to heal. I want to get to the point of actually thinking well of the male race (cause right now I don't think very highly of them... and these situations haven't helped) again. I honestly don't like the attention. I would rather be invisible. Well, today was all about me venting. Thanks for listening... or not. I guess that is the good thing about this thing. People don't have to read if they don't want to!
