May I survive

With my first 8 weeks coming to a close, I feel as if I have already finished one semester. But alas, I have only finished half of one semester. The next two weeks will be insane, filled with 6 exams and the official beginning of my clinicals. I am nervous and excited about that. I feel confident in my nursing knowledge so far, but I still feel like I don't know enough to be getting out in the field. I guess that is maybe why they are starting us in Geri-, probably one of the... easier forms of nursing. Pretty consistent and routine. Next semester starts with med-surge. I think there we will probably really get the feel for what it is like to be a nurse... really get a feel for the doctor-nurse relationship. Bahaha! I love how we are learning right now about how so much of our work is collaborative, working with the doctor. How we are NEVER to blame or rag on a fellow healthcare professional. Hhhmmm I wonder if doctors learn that in school too? :-D I am just kidding... kinda. I am so exhausted though. It seems like all of this is never going to end. I can't even imagine having to do this for 4 years in a row. I have always hated school. I would much rather be out in the "field" learning by doing. The more I get into this the less certain I am as to how I want to use my degree. Obviously, be a nurse but... where I want to be... I don't know. Part of me just wants to relax and work in a doctor's office where I will have a consistent set schedule, but another part of me wants to work somewhere like an ER with it crazy unpredictability. I also have (and always have had) a deep desire to join the airforce and use my skills to help save the men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day. I also know that I want to be able to do at least short-term medical missions. Wow, that sounds so crazy and all over the place. Maybe going back to some of my own blogs will help me. Like maybe I am God's Handiwork. *sigh* I just hope that God gives me clear direction as to what decision I need to make. He only ever has once and... well... look how well that turned out. Maybe it is just my interpreting skills aren't like they should be. I don't know. Well, here's to another insanely crazy 8 weeks. Lord have mercy on my soul and may I survive.
