The Joy of Salvation

Tonight I thought my heart would fly away with me. After about two hours of deep discussion (as deep as a three year old can get) and an entire day of talking about and reading about Jesus and what today means, my oldest daughter asked Jesus into her heart. I sat there and asked her about what Jesus did for her and what it meant. I asked her if she understood what sin was and why it was bad. I asked her if she wanted Jesus to forgive her (forgiveness is a concept that I have made sure she knows and understands from an early age) and if she wants to be able to go to heaven with Jesus some day. She was very serious and talked about how she knew that she was mean some times and that she needed Jesus to help her be a good girl. She talked about how she knows Jesus loves her and that He died for her so that she could go to heaven. She told me that she wanted to ask Jesus into her heart (though she was concerned for a little about how Jesus would fit into her heart, as she explained it, "Jesus is a big Jesus and I am a little Maggie!") and that she wanted to love Him. After talking for that two hour time period I decided that she understood the basic concepts well enough to ask Jesus into her heart. As she prayed in her sweet mixed up way, I almost cried. I silently thanked God for drawing my sweet girl to Himself. That despite everything she has gone through she can still understand love and that God is good. It thrills me to think that she has taken that first important step. There are many more steps and there are many more things she will need to learn and understand, but she is heading in the right direction. I just pray that I will be able to continue leading her down the right path until she is old enough to take it on her own; I pray that by that time she will knowand understand all she needs to have a great life as a Christ follower, that she will be a woman after God's own heart.
